The primary goal of Lynchburg’s TechHire designation is to support our growing community of entrepreneurs, tech based businesses, and the City’s legacy companies. Lynchburg is partnering with local employers to pilot accelerated learning programs that will prepare students to enter the workforce in months instead of years. The Lynchburg Beacon of Hope, a non-profit community partner, is developing a virtual career center to reach local students with Lynchburg’s career and training opportunities. Lynchburg’s TechHire Working Group is convening regularly with employers, non-profit organizations and training providers to build a pipeline from secondary education to the workforce. The Lynchburg Economic Development Authority is partnering with employers to revise their recruiting process to not only accept more individuals with accelerated learning program microdegrees, but to also provide on the job training for graduates. Lynchburg has committed to training 75 people with these microdegree programs by the end of 2016.
